Kean: Legislature Should Address Property Tax Crisis
Assemblyman Kean has introduced a
measure that could provide Monmouth County residents with property
tax relief much sooner than could be provided by the proposed
constitutional convention.
Kean's measure calls for a special legislative session to address
the state's property tax crisis. A constitutional convention would
take at least two years to begin to provide residents with property
tax relief. In addition, it would cost an estimated $4 million to
stage such a convention.
A special legislative session on property tax reform could be held
as early as this fall.
"The
residents of Monmouth County, and especially seniors, are drowning
under constantly increasing property taxes," said Kean. "With a
special session the Legislature can provide desperately needed
property tax relief now instead of forcing taxpayers to wait years
for a constitutional convention to address the issue."
