ASSEMBLYMAN
SEAN KEAN TOURS MONMOUTH BEACH SEA WALL
RECENT STORMS BATTERED
ALREADY DAMAGED STRUCTURE
Assemblyman Sean Kean visited the sea wall in Monmouth
Beach today to view the damage that was done to the
already deteriorating structure during the recent
storms.
Kean, who toured the sea wall with Monmouth Beach Mayor
Susan Howard and Commissioner Kim Guadagno, said the
storm intensified the urgent need to repair the wall
which separates Monmouth Beach from the ocean.
The sea wall is losing stones and the beach sand is
being eroded with each storm. On Apil 15, the sea wall
was breached continuously from 7pm to 9pm.
“The sea wall has been in desperate need of repair even
before our area was pounded by the recent Nor’easter,”
he said. “This storm added to the damage and has made it
even more important to immediately take steps to repair
the sea wall in Monmouth Beach.”
Kean has written to the Governor and the Department of
Environmental Protection (DEP) about the condition of
the sea wall and has personally discussed the matter
with DEP Commissioner Lisa Jackson.
He said the DEP recognizes the need to repair the wall
and has agreed to fund their share of the project.
However, Kean said he will continue to encourage swift
action be taken to maintain the integrity of the
structure.
“The Monmouth Beach sea wall has deteriorated to the
point that it presents a hazard to the residents and
businesses in this community,” he said. “With the
additional damage incurred during the recent storms, I
am concerned that, if action is not taken immediately,
this situation could end in disaster.”
